This month’s Familia Kitchen Recipe Contest stars one of our all-time favorites: mofongo. This hearty dish made with mashed green plantains, chicharrón (crispy pork skin), garlic and other ingredients is a prized tradition in Puerto Rico. It’s also served throughout the Caribbean—often with different names like mangú and fufú.

Mofongo is the delicioso result of Puerto Rico’s—and comida latina’s—trio of culinary and cultural influences: Indigenous, Spanish and African.

How does your family make mofongo? Do you make it plain with mojo, top it with shrimp or beef, or something else? We’d love to spotlight yours!

We’re in the Familia Kitchen cocina testing your entries now. Stay tuned for voting!
