How to Make Arroz con Leche, Mexican-Style Rice Pudding

Arroz con leche — so creamy-delicioso, so comforting — is a favorite dessert throughout Latin America. This recipe for arroz con leche is a favorite family recipe in the Pilsen, Chicago home of Doña Rosita Camarena, one of our favorite Mexican cooks. She makes this recipe, which she learned from her own mother and sister when she was growing up, regularly for her daughter, who loves it with lots of cinnamon and duraznos or peaches on top. (She says you can of course use raisins, which are traditional, but they use peaches in her home because “my daughter has never liked raisins.”

Familia Kitchen is honored to shine a light on this special receta for arroz con leche, a traditional dessert served regularly on both Mexican and Latino tables. It takes us right back to childhood and to memories of dipping a spoon into a bowl of creamy, cinnamon-y rice pudding. Each bite is crunchy-soft, sweet, and just a bit savory. Arroz con leche is love in a bowl.
