A Lighter Paloma With Fresh Grapefruit Juice

paloma healthy

A fizzy paloma is one of our go-to cocktails here at Familia Kitchen, year-round and especially when the sol comes out in spring and summer. If you love this tequila classic bev, but are trying to keep sugar and calories in check, consider this fresh take on the paloma. Our Healthy & Delicioso editor Naihomy Jerez flips sugary grapefruit soda for fresh-squeezed grapefruit and sparkling water. The result is light, lovely, refreshing and saludable. Nos encanta, Naihomy.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp jalapeño chile

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • 4 oz grapefruit juice, fresh

  • 2 oz tequila

  • 1 oz sparkling water

  • ice cubes

Directions

  • Slice the jalapeño into thin rounds. Place the jalapeño and lime in a cocktail shaker. Press lightly on them for 30 seconds.
  • Add the grapefruit juice, tequila and a few ice cubes. Shake for a few seconds.
  • In your cocktail serving glass, place several ice cubes.
  • Fill the glass two-thirds full with your grapefruit-tequila mixture. Fill to the top with sparkling water.
  • Garnish with a slice of fresh grapefruit or jalapeño. Or both! Salud.

Notes

  • If you start with a fresh grapefruit, 4 oz of fresh juice will leave you about half of the grapefruit left—perfect for slicing and using as a garnish.
